Ingress Protection (IP) testing is used to assess the ability of an enclosure to provide protection to the internals of a product when subjected to solids and liquids.
The IP code consists of a 2 digit code, where the first digit ranges from 0 – 6 (degree of protection against access to hazardous parts & solid foreign objects) and the second digit ranges from 0 – 9 (degree of protection against water).
The two digits in an IP code are completely independent of each other and the relevant industry will stipulate the required code for the product under test:

Nowadays, there are more and more electronic products used
outdoors, and waterproof test is a very important link for
products, because only after waterproof test can we have a basis to
judge whether the products manufactured by the factory can still
maintain stable performance in outdoor harsh conditions. Therefore,
IP waterproof grade test is an essential project.
The waterproof test is mainly applicable to the shell protection
grade test (IP waterproof grade test) of products in the fields of
electronics and electricians, lamps, electric cabinets, electronic
components, automobiles, transportation, external devices and so
on. Judge whether the performance of the product meets the
requirements of relevant standards through verification, so as to
facilitate the design, improvement, verification and delivery
